👨👩👧👦 Family Water Activities in Sotogrande: What to Do with Kids
Planning a family day on the water? Here's which of our activities work best for kids, teens, and multi-generational groups.
Sotogrande is one of the most family-friendly spots on the Costa del Sol, but figuring out which water activities are suitable for which ages can be confusing. Can a 5-year-old go on a banana boat? Is a jet ski safe for a teenager? What do you do with a toddler while the older kids are out on the water?
This guide answers all of it. We have grouped activities by age range so you can plan a day on the water that works for your entire family — without anyone being bored or left out.
Ages 0–3: Toddlers and Babies
Let's be honest: most water sports are not designed for toddlers. But that does not mean you cannot get on the water as a family.
Pedal Boat (with canopy)
Our pedal boats seat up to 5 people and are extremely stable. There is no age minimum — toddlers sit with a parent in the shade of the canopy while the adults pedal. The boat barely rocks, there are high sides to prevent anyone from falling over, and you stay close to shore.
- Duration: 1 hour
- Price: €40 per boat
- What to bring: Sun hat for the baby, swim nappies, shade cloth if the canopy does not fully cover
This is genuinely the only water activity in Sotogrande suitable for babies and young toddlers. It is calm, safe, and parents stay in full control.
Ages 4–7: Young Children
This is where the options open up. Children aged 4 and above can join several activities with adult supervision.
Banana Boat
The banana boat has a minimum age of 4. Young children sit between two adults who help them hold on. The driver adjusts speed for younger groups — no hard turns, no sudden acceleration. It is exciting enough to make kids scream with joy but gentle enough that they feel safe.
- Duration: 15 minutes
- Price: €25 per person
- Parent tip: Sit your child between you and another adult. Hold them if they lose their grip on the handles.
Kayak (Double)
A double kayak fits one adult and one child. The adult paddles from the back while the child sits in front — they can paddle too, but it is optional. Kids this age love being "captain" and pointing out fish through the clear water.
- Duration: 1 hour
- Price: €30 per kayak
- Parent tip: Bring a small waterproof bag with snacks and water. An hour on the water is a long time for a 5-year-old.
Pedal Boat with Slide
The slide version of our pedal boat is the star activity for this age group. The slide is built into the boat, angled into the water. Children climb up, slide down, swim to the ladder, and repeat until their arms give out. Parents pedal lazily. Everyone wins.
- Duration: 1 hour
- Price: €40 per boat
- Parent tip: Children must be confident swimmers or wear a life jacket in the water. We provide jackets.

Ages 8–12: Adventure Starts
Children in this age group can participate in almost every activity. They are strong enough to hold on to towable rides, confident enough to paddle alone, and old enough to ride as a passenger on a jet ski.
Crazy Sofa and Donut
The crazy sofa and donut rides have a minimum age of 8. These are faster and wilder than the banana boat — the driver makes sharper turns and higher speeds. Most 8–12 year olds love it. If your child is on the smaller side, the banana boat is a better starting point.
- Duration: 10 minutes each
- Price: €25 per person
- Parent tip: Start with the banana boat as a warm-up. If they want more, move to the crazy sofa.
Jet Ski (as Passenger)
Children aged 8 and above can ride as a passenger behind an adult driver on a jet ski. They sit on the back, hold the grab handles, and enjoy the ride while the adult controls the speed and direction.
- Duration: 20 min (circuit) or 1 hour (tour)
- Price: From €70 (circuit, per jet ski — child rides free as passenger)
- Parent tip: Start with the 20-minute circuit to see if your child enjoys it. If they love it, book the 1-hour Gibraltar tour next.
Paddleboarding
Children aged 10 and above can usually handle a paddleboard independently in calm conditions. Younger children (8–9) can sit or kneel on the board while a parent paddles. It is a fun skill to learn and the sheltered waters near Puerto de Sotogrande are perfect for beginners.
- Duration: 1 hour
- Price: €25 per board
- Parent tip: Rent two boards — one for you, one for your child. Stay close together.
Ages 13–17: Teenagers
Teenagers want speed, independence, and to do things with their friends — not their parents. These activities deliver.
Jet Ski Circuit (Solo from 16)
From age 16, teenagers can drive a jet ski solo on the closed circuit with parental consent. It is one of the most popular activities for teens — they ride independently within the marked area, at their own speed, with an instructor watching from shore.
- Duration: 20 or 30 minutes
- Price: From €70
- Parent tip: The 30-minute session is worth the upgrade. 20 minutes feels very short once they get going.
Towable Ride Combo
Banana boat + crazy sofa + donut is the classic teen combo. Book all three back to back and let them spend an hour on the water with their friends. Most groups of teenagers do not stop laughing the entire time.
- Price: €75 per person for all three
- Parent tip: Ask about group packages if you have 4 or more teens. Watch from the shore and enjoy the quiet.
Guided Jet Ski Tour (with Parent)
Teenagers aged 13–15 can ride as passengers on a guided tour. From 16 with parental consent, they can drive their own jet ski on the tour with the guide leading the group.
The Gibraltar tour is perfect for teenagers — it is an hour of proper riding along the coast with views of the Rock and Africa. They will talk about it for weeks.
